UPDATE: as of 15.06.2009

the below rules which are stricked out, no longer apply. This directory is being transformed into a semi-open directory, which means that all submissions will be checked mostly for illegal/adult content only.
In the following weeks, I will start a new directroy where only selected submissions will be granted admission.

RULES:

  1. NO sites with content of- or related to: porn/adult, illegal drugs/substances, gambling/luck-based-whatever (any kind: casino, card games, races, lottery, etc), alcohol, smoking, rasist, violence, spam, warez etc. Such site will be rejected/deleted from this directory.
  2. NO redirecting sites (from one domain to another; to a subdomain or to a subpage which is not the main page), or dynamic urls (like something.php?whatever_here).
  3. No 1-2-3 page sites that promote 1-2-3 products; no panic-attack/anxiety/etc disorder or herbal/vitamins/natural/etc sites that just throw in a few pages with no original content.
  4. No sites with little content and lots of external links, since they are most probably used as link farms.
  5. Also, submissions will be rejected if email is not valid and cannot reach you.
  6. Don't submit urls with a folder (like domain/folder/) or file (like domain/file.extension) unless the folder/file is for the english version of a non-english site.
if you have sites that have more "functions" (like having a shop, a presentation, a forum, etc) place them in the "on the web" category.
And finally, I can deny inclusion of any site for any particular reason, not mentioned above. But usually, it will be because of poor or inadecvate content.

Following are the obsolete rules

If you do not take the time to make a correct submission, I will NOT take the time to review it and will probably reject it from start.

You'll have the chance of correcting, finetuning, updating, etc your submission in the near future after I set up another directroy software on a different domain. You'll be notified via email when that happens. However, only specific submissions, which I deem appropriate will be selected from the ones present in this directory. Until then you'll have to submit to proper categories as explained below.

Due to the critical nature of the subject, I no longer accept health-related sites (products, deseases, etc). I do however accept sites of hospitals, doctor offices, health centers, etc which will be placed in Business -> Healthcare and these sites will have to conform to the bussiness related rules below. I made this decision because there is no way I can validate the content of such sites and in this case, bad or inadecvate content can have serious repercusions on people.
I have created a Beauty and Make-up and Hygiene categories for the related sites. Admission in these 2 categories will be however very strict.

I no longer accept (I don't know if I ever had) dating sites or other related sites (socializing, etc). I simply disagree with the concept.

I no longer accept article sites due to the nature of the problem and because it is very hard to prove the correctness and realness and originality of the articles. I've been wathcing some of the outsourcing sites (like rentacoder.com, getafreelancer.com, etc) and there are a ton of bids for articles (write me 1000 articles on that topic, and alike). So no more such sites.

If it's a blog, no matter the content, it goes into the blogs category!!!
If it's a forum, no matter the content/subject, it goes into the discussion boards category !!!
If it's an article site, no matter the content, it goes into the articles category!!!
If it's a directory, no matter the content, it goes into the directories category!!!
If it's an online store with NO offline store (all hosted on amazon, ebay, etc), no matter what it sells, it goes into the online stores category (from "on the web")!!! (in which sub-categories will be created when and if needed)
Everything not in english (from content point of view) goes into the appropriate regional sub-category. If it doesn't exist, please create it and add your site to the parent category. When I'll approve the category, I will also move your submission to it. I cannot guess what your site language is from looking at it, so you must create the sub-category for your country if it does not exist.
Title and description MUST be in english. Unless the site will be in some regional subcategory. Also, they must be real title and real description, not marketing, advertisement, key word lists, etc. and they must appear.
Title must be real title of site. Description must be real, short, correct description of the content of the site. (Just as in case of a book or a movie).
DO NOT include the url/domain in the title or description.
NO obvious SEO stuff allowed in title or in description. You will create your title and description for the human user and not for the search engines. By doing this, it will be seo-friendly, but not in the aggressive way.

0. Rule #0, base rule: You failed to submit according to the above guidlines (usually because you didn't read them).
Sites that combat the above "society problems" are of course welcome.
Example: a site that promotes alcohol (like an alcohol store) will not be accepted.
however, a site that promotes anti-alcohol "whatever" will be accepted (like an online AA forum).
Also, an online store that sells guns for example, legally, is of course accepted.

So basically, this is not an 18- directory, just a ... "christian"/family one.

2. NO redirecting sites (from one domain to another; to a subdomain or to a subpage which is not the main page), or dynamic urls (like something.php?whatever_here).
3. Sites that seem to have been created just for advertisment content WILL NOT be accepted (also see rule 8).
4. A sloppy, incorrect, spam, etc submission also has BIG chances of getting rejected. I expect you to at least submit your link to the right category if that category exists and use an acceptable title and description.
5. No 1-2-3 page sites that promote 1-2-3 products; no panic-attack/anxiety/etc disorder or herbal/vitamins/natural/etc sites that just throw in a few pages with no original content.
6. No sites with little content and lots of external links, since they are most probably used as link farms.
7. Also, submissions will be rejected if email is not valid and cannot reach you:
  • a. recipient does not exist
  • b. recipient has full mailbox
  • c. domain does not exist
  • d. email is rejected for any reason which is not my servers fault (not included here are spam filters incorrectly reporting my server as untrusted, etc)
8. Bogus sites: It's been a while since I am approving/rejecting links and I can say that I've seen a lot of sites with no original content, just some text thrown in. Also, they have texts like "What people think of" but there is no way to express your opinion. Most sites are blog-like, with 5-10 "articles". Others have a lot of such short "articles", but nothing really relevant.
Some sites also are front-domains front-sites for other sites or use/harvest data from other sites. They usually bring nothing new, just present the same data differently (searches, products, etc.).
so such sites will be rejected as being bogus sites. Probably created to get them high in SERPs and then use them for ads/spam/whatever. Also somewhat related to point 3 above.
- adding another type of bogus site: celebrities, but of course it's full of adds and only pictures of women celebs, mostly undressed (not nude)
- no sites with black-seo and alike techniques (like doorways, hidden kye word lists, etc). Automatically rejected as bogus sites.
9. Don't submit urls with a folder (like domain/folder/) or file (like domain/file.extension) unless the folder/file is for the english version of a non-english site.
- if you have sites that have more "functions" (like having a shop, a presentation, a forum, etc) place them in the "on the web" category.
10. I no longer accept blog or blog-like sites that are not real blogs. 1-3-5 articles on a specific subject, just enough to get the adds working. Even if there are no adds at the moment of my visit, such sites will NOT be accepted. See the definition of a blog if you feel this is incorrect.
11. Sites should work in most browsers. User should not be forced to switch browser to view a site. I will test opera, firefox and IE, randomly.
12. Usefull/usable content is a must. A user, a human user, must find usefull/usable information on your site.
- contact page (or worse case, "about us" page) MUST contain more than just a form, especially if it's a bussiness/financial/etc site.
- further more, bussines sites should have portofolios, presentations, etc. a 5-7 page, 10 lines of general text per page and 4-6 photos is not a usefull site. and it certainly doesn't look like a serious bussiness.
- bussines sites must also have complete company information on contact/about us page (I'm talking about the public information: address, managers/seo/whatever, phone, etc)
13. Article sites must contain real, relevant articles. Read rules 8 and 10 again.

And finally, I can deny inclusion of any site for any particular reason, not mentioned above. But usually, it will be because of poor or inadecvate content.

Bottom line: quality comes first. I am NOT interested in promoting your site. I am interested in building a quality directory. If that means 9 out of 10 submissions rejected, that will happen.
I am not interested in original content as I am not a search engine. I am interested in usefull content!

Note (25.05.2007: I've changed some of the rules. also, deleted rule 7 as it was a duplicate of #2. so #11 become #10, #10 become #9, #9 become #8 and #8 become #7.
